For women the waist was loosened, and a straight line was adopted.  The hobble skirt caught on quickly. This style remained the height of fashion until around 1915.Frilly, puffed blouses and fluted skirts continued to be popular.

Men wore sack suits. These where normally long,plain and loose fitting suit jackets. Usually sack suits were 30-32 inches long. Colours where normally dark navy or gray. But from 1914 to the end of the decade, many men were photographed in military uniform.
